It’s back! The amazing winter beer fest held outside in the Uptown Arts District in downtown Michigan City.

The Shelf Ice Brewfest is an outdoor winter beer festival hosted by the Michigan City Mainstreet Association. The event highlights Michigan City’s 3 local breweries (Shoreline Brewery, Burn ‘Em Brewing, and Zorn Brew Works) and brings together dozens of other regional breweries for a exhilarating experience.

The event also features a warming/music tent which features local bands, local food vendors, and a various games to play. 

This event is a major fundraiser for the Michigan City Mainstreet Association which is a non-profit organization dedicated to revitalizing Michigan City’s downtown, so when you buy a ticket, you’re helping us out big time. 

This year, because of the rising cost of everything, especially producing beer, ticket prices have been slightly adjusted. General Admission tickets will be a little more this year. The majority of that increase will be passed on to the breweries that work so hard on making the delicious reason for Shelf Ice Brewfest. While VIP remains the same price as previous years, we are not able to provide the traditional winter garment along with those tickets. VIP will still be allowed in one hour early and will receive a full pint glass. General Admission attendees will get a smaller sample cup.

All ticket sales are final. This event is rain, snow, or shine. We recommend skiing or sledding attire. There will be a warming tent with live music, but you will be outside most of the time.

By purchasing tickets to this outdoor event, you understand the risks of crowded spaces and the possibility of coming into contact with someone who may have COVID. Use your head. Michigan City Mainstreet Association can’t be held responsible for transmission.

Same place as always: Outside on Franklin Street in downtown Michigan City between 6th and 8th Streets. The entrance to the event is at the intersection of Franklin & 8th Street. Check out the map to the right for more detailed information regarding the event layout.


  • If you are coming from I-94 or Hwy. 20, just get off on Highway 421 (Franklin Street) and take it north all the way to 8th Street where the event entrance will be.
  • If you are taking the South Shore Line Train, get off at the 11th Street stop (not the Carol Ave. stop) and then walk half a block west to Franklin and then north from there.

Ticketing (Please Read!)

This is a ticketed event, and all tickets must be purchased in advance. No tickets will be sold at the gate. Each ticket is unique. Only purchase tickets through On Tap Tickets. Do not purchase second-hand tickets from third-party sellers as they may be counterfeit fakes that will not grant you entrance to the event.

When you arrive at the event, you will have your ID checked and then your ticket will be scanned. Once your ticket is scanned, you will enter the “ticket-holder waiting area” (see map to right). At exactly 1:00 pm, everyone that has made it into the waiting area will be allowed to enter the event at once eliminating any wait time so that everyone has the most time possible to enjoy the brews! This is very similar to how patrons are let into the Great Taste of the Midwest.
